Your grandma is living on the street !

From up in my irvory tower(Downtown Red River Campus), I watched an elderly "bag" lady crush and clean about 75 pop cans. It took her about an hour and a half to do it too. She dumped out her bag of pop cans on the ground; Underneith the over hang of the Civic Center Parkade and systematicly  proceded to move one can at a time with a stick (that she used to lean on) into her reach so she could crush it then flick it away and start the process all over again.

It seemed well rehersed and was probably not the first time she had done this. I dont know where you would return said cans for money but I guess you could get there weight in aluminum. I am just going to assume she gets 5cents per tin. Hey she made $3.75 !

When she was all done she even used 3 bottle of water that she had brought with her in her shopping cart to wash the ground(coke and pop was draining from the crushed cans and running down the sidewalk). This one act speaks volumes about how even though she is living in the hardest of conditions she still has the self decency to clean up after herself. Other then a section of wet cement I wouldnt of even know she was there.

What was sad about the whole thing was that she must of been into her late 60's early 70's, and I am going to assume the worst she lives on the street with no:

  • friends
  • family
  • home

I use the term home losely, as just about anywhere can be "home".

Anyways bag lady, today is your day. You dont need anyone to tell you that you have earned your place and now a little peice of you has been captured on the internet.
