First allow me to say that I really enjoyed Winnipeg Code Camp 2010,  this was my second year attending. The events were welled planned out, prizes were awesome(even though i didnt win one) and I got to fill myself with free coffee,cressants, pizza and apple juice at Winnipeg Code Camp 2010. I met some great people as well. I had the opportunity to meet the gentlemen from Anvil Digital and also a DB admin for Protegra, all very smart people with excellent presentations.

Now lets get down to the serious business. After closely inspecting D'Arcy blog where he had posted during the actual event (Winnipeg Code Camp 2010), images of different sessions I noticed strange white blips on the digital photographs. Now one thing I do have to assume is in no way did D'arcy or myself use any photo manipulation to alter these images other then highlighting the affected area's.

Hold on to your pants this shit gets freaky

 During our lunch period, notice myself in the far corner un aware of the "white energy orbs"

Presenter smiles at camera unsuspectingly while energy orbs suround him

Now in an effort to maintain a professional level I did alittle bit of research on what the orbs may be and the history od the building. Prepare to be fascinated, Using my favorite search eangine www.askjeeves.comwww.askjeeves.com, I asked AJ  "what are these white orbs on my photographs". Check this out

  "...That orbs are paranormal in nature, i.e. non-naturalistic and ghost like. Some people claim that paranormal orbs are more likely to appear in certain locales, or are attracted to human activities, especially those involving children. The images on the Internet forums devoted to orbs are taken in graveyards, backyards, attics, and kitchens, living rooms, as well as bars, convention centers, and city streets – in short, anywhere people may be taking photos..."

So now this got me thinking what did the Princess Street campus use to be before Red River College owned it.

Taken from the Doors Open Winnipeg websiteTaken from the Doors Open Winnipeg website

"Red River College’s Princess Street Campus is one of Canada’s most energy efficient buildings; it opened in three phases between 2002-2004. This $35 million development restored the Exchange District’s oldest intact streetscape, which dates back to 1882,"

Thats right this building is over 128 years old! I have sent a letter to the city of Winnipeg Historical Building department tyo get the full history of these building so please stay tuned. We might just open this mother up :)

To view speakers notes you must veiw in fullscreen mode, then click the actions button on the bottom left

Vision:
To develop a Web 2.0 application for the Winnipeg 311 system that will allow a user to issue “tickets” from the convenience of their web browser. The system will use a graphical map to aid in the process of identifying and locating municipal issues. The system will also include an administrative application back-end.

Project Opportunities:
The Broken ‘Peg will be an excellent addition to the current Winnipeg 311 service. The system will allow the efficient submission and location of various non-emergency problems observed by the public. The data obtained will aid in quickly assigning priority levels to ensure urgent problems are handled promptly. Information regarding outstanding and completed projects will be displayed on the homepage to encourage government transparency and increase public confidence.

Phases:
The Broken ‘Peg is designed to be deliverable in several phases. Each phase will add enhanced functionality by adding new elements and modifying existing content. Delivering the project in this fashion will allow the production of several working releases. These releases can help identify potential issues in the early stages of development and allow the client to easily monitor progress.

Winnipegs newest Hip-Hop Station

If you havent been paying attention you may have missed it. Lost at the back end of the radio spectrum is a little station playing some solid Rap.

Nestled close to its Big Brother/Sister station 105.5 FM; 104.7 Streetz has been playin continuous music as they fine tune there playlists and get there young DJ's ready for prime time.

It has been almost 2 years since Winnipeg last had a rap radio station, 107 "Flava" was considered a "radio school" but run on to hard financial times. Where is Franky now :P

Anyways this new station sounds good, even though they dont have any DJ's working yet and considering that its backed by NCI-FM has the financial backing to go the distance.

Now for the weird part. The DJ's

92.1 = Old Men

92.9 = College Students

94.3 = Cougars

97.5 = Mid/Late 20's

101.1 = Brutal University Students

103 = Teeny Boppers and Club music for

104 = Cowboys

104.7 = Mid 20's Aboriginal

105.5 = Cowboys

107 = No idea .... christian rock ?!?

Woah thats right 104.7 is aboriginal in nature :). Blacks need not apply.

Quoted from there own site
WHO IS STREETZ FM 104-7?

In 2008, NCI-FM put in a successful application into the CRTC to receive one of the last radio licenses for the city of Winnipeg. They received the approval to launch a Hip Hop and urban music station targeting Aboriginal youth and all youth who love Hip Hop music. This station is STREETZ 104-7.

WHO ARE STREETZ 104-7 LISTENERS?

Aboriginal youth are the fastest growing demographic in Winnipeg. Winnipeg’s Aboriginal population is estimated to be near 90,000 and growing quickly. According to the 2006 Census, the median age for the Aboriginal community is 27 years old compared to 40 years old in the rest of the population. This is the youngest and fastest growing segment of the city and it is not be served directly by any media.

As close minded as this post now seems, not to worry I'm not judging. But could a White guy get some representation.This is Winnipeg, lots of other minorities like hiphop....look at the filipino's! Anyways the music is good and hopefully the DJ's are talented.

FYI Jules, Jesica, and Sadie are hot :P
